Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers, was born on August 8, 1989, in Paris. At the age five she relocated from London to Oxfordshire where she studied at The Dragon School. From the age of six Emma realized she would like to be an actress. For several years, she was a student at the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school where she studied performing and singing. As early as age ten the actress took part in and played the leading role in a number of Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. The casting process began in 1999 to cast Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the movie adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was discovered by casting agents via Emma's Oxford theater teacher. David Heyman told Emma along with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe after they all had 8 consecutive auditions. The release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's cinematic screen debut. The film is 2001's top production, and it broke records during the opening day as well as the first weekend. Reviewers praised the film, particularly the younger actors. The Daily Telegraph in Britain that is distributed widely the newspaper, described her performance as outstanding. Emma was later awarded five prizes to honor her role in the film.
